Back in mid 1997, my sister became pregnant with my third niece. She had been particularly close to our cousin Carla, who killed herself in 1994. My sister had planned to name her baby after Carla....she was going to name the baby Carla Leigh. She had not discussed any other names among our family members.

One morning in February 1998, I was rising for work, and went to the kitchen to start a pot of coffee. As I was standing there, half-asleep in my kitchen, I heard a voice that simply and matter-of-factly said "KATE".

Needless to say, it startled the ever-loving stew out of me! I brushed it off as peculiar, not getting any rhyme or reason out of it. I did think about that voice the rest of the day, and why the name KATE came to me. I thought it was eerie, but just went on about my day at work. Maybe I was still asleep, and just dreaming, I thought. But, when I got home from work that evening, I got a call from my mother. She told me that my sister had finally given birth to her little girl at around 6:30 that morning.

After telling me which hospital and room my sister was in, she told me that Jacci had a last-minute change of plans in naming her baby. She named her Caitlyn Meranda, and they were going to call the baby CAITY.

Was someone trying to tell me I had a new niece? The time of her birth was exactly when the voice came to me while standing in my kitchen. I am sorry that I have absolutely no explanation for that one. Talking about it still gives me chill bumps.
